III. Thesis: To celebrate my Grandmother by speaking about her accomplishments and special moments in her life thus far.

Introduction
Emily Dickinson wrote “We turn not older with years, but newer every day”. I cannot think of a truer statement to describe my Grandmother who we are here to celebrate with today. She never ceases to surprise me and always keeps me on my toes... She is 85 going on 25 as they say.

Her first achievements were academic. A. In 1952 she became the first of her family to graduate from college. B. After college she became a teacher where she had the chance to have an impact on her students, some of whom became teachers themselves. II. After teaching, her focus became family A. It didn't take her long to meet the love of her life and get married. B. She had 3 children and 4 grandchildren that she would give her heart to. III. Grandmother not only taught her students, she taught her grandchildren as well.
A. She spent a lot of time with us when we were small, prepping us for school.
B. She taught us to read, write, and count.
C. She taught us the importance of hard work and chasing our dreams. D. I myself can attribute my academic successes and work ethic to her.
Transition: Not only has she important to her family, but she has many friends that she has had an impact on as well.
I. You cannot have a conversation with her on the phone, or in person without someone calling her to chat or dropping by to visit.
II. It can be frustrating sometimes but it is obvious that she is loved by many.
Conclusion
When asked to describe the birthday girl many words come to mind: kind, nurturing, loving, spunky, childlike, and beautiful are just a few. I am filled with such joy when I see the sparkle in her eyes.
