Once the idea is conceived, it is sketched on a paper or entered in a computer through Corel. The design is then viewed technically to understand the product and visualize all the aspects of the design. There are 23 techniques used for manufacturing a piece of jewellery. These techniques will give shape to the ideas and create the final product. The designing is done either manually or with Corel designing. In manual designing a minimum of 12 to 15 an individual jeweller creates designs. Whereas in Corel designing a jeweller creates minimum four designs with complete technical views and details.
Step # 2 – CAD/CAM Model Making CAD stands for Computer Aided Design, is a technology that is used to make models and CAM stands for Computer Aided Machine, which is the equipment used to make the models. Once a design is conceptualized in the mind of the jewellery designer, it is replicated from paper and into the system. This process of preparing a virtual model is facilitated through Computer Aided Designing technology. The model is then produced with the help of a Computer Aided Machine.
The designing of a virtual model requires the use of software like Rhino, Jewel CAD, Ideas, Pro-engg and Matrix. However, some design models may be extremely complex and delicate and have to be handmade. It may not be possible to use CAD and CAM methods for producing such pieces. Whether virtual or handmade, model making is a specialized process. Here is a lowdown on the model making process.
