Sport specialization is defined as intense training and focus on one sport while not participating in others (Jayanthi, Pinkham, Dugas, Patrick, & LaBella, 2012). Early specialization in sports contain numerous aspects that children undergo as they participate in sports, such as high levels of training at a younger age, minimal rest or time off and participation in multiple sports. Children participating at an early age in one sport can bring positive outcomes to youth development. For example the participation in sports can enhance physical health within the child.

Paterno, Rauh, Schmitt, Ford, & Hewett (2014) determine that an athlete has a greater chance of tearing their ACL again in the first 12 months after ACL reconstruction and returning to their sport. Studies like Paterno et al., (2014) show individuals with previous ACL history have greater risk of re-injury than someone with no history. In this study 78 subjects no greater than 21 years old where observed after ACL reconstructions was done and had return to their sports. Data found that athletes are 6 times greater to re-injure their ACL again than someone having no ACL injury history (Paterno et al., 2014). Results showed that females undergo a greater risk of re-tearing their ACL; with twice the risk of tearing the opposite ACL than males do. The lack of focus on the opposite leg in rehab could be a factor for ACL in the opposite limb (Paterno et al.,
