As as leader, I would like to implement changes in reference to documentation. Therefore, my specific goal is to be knowledgeable in this area first, before I can present this to my staff. There are many ways for me to accomplish this goal, to excel in this skill. I will begin with an extensive research on this topic. I will join the New York Association of Nursing and search for workshops, CE classes and live seminars on documentation. During this process, I would like to learn my own strength and weaknesses. Once I have achieved the learning goal, I will then work on achieving it, and putting it into practice. However, before doing so, I would like to coordinate with the informatics nurse and staff development about incorporating a yearly inservice on documenting for all registered nurses and at the initial date of hire. I would also make sure of useful articles that provide current, full text and peer review literature on my topic of interest. Measure Effectiveness of the Goal In a SMART goal, it is important to make sure that goal is measurable. Measurable simply means what data will be used to make sure the goal is accomplished. This is definitely relevant in the field of nursing because as a leader, my intention is to build growth and confidence in my nursing staff. I know many nurses will appreciate the resource made available to them because proper documentation improves patient care as well as the nursing practice.
