Speech 111: Reaction paper on film viewing !

The Kings Speech and My Fair Lady were both two phenomenal movies, that even
got me thinking of changing my career path. Although reality kicked me when I realised that I am not gifted with abundance of patience and maybe even, composure. Hats off to speech pathologists and therapists much respect and admire their perseverance in teaching and helping treat their student/patients. !

Mr. Lionel and Professor Higgins had similar techniques that evidently helped in
improving the speech impairment of the two subjects, King George and Eliza Doolittle.
They both began by learning how to properly breathe, a vital factor in learning how to speak. I’ve learned that breathing exercises relieve ourselves from stress and result to peace of mind. And that by better breathing we are able to take in more oxygen for our muscles that equate to better endurance. Second, they both had to get comfortable to be at ease when speaking. Eliza Doolittle seemed to have no issues regarding confidence, and that differentiated the situation. This is why he had several practices that helped him relax when anxiety took over. He was instructed to rock on his feet, he sweared a lot, and he even sang some lines too. Third, they both did not stop practicing. They went through words, and even letters over and over again - day in and day out. Constantly trying to perfect each little syllable until they got it right. Fourth, after being able to pronounce properly, they learned how to deal with tongue twisters to help those muscles, the tongue and the mouth, to really move. All these basic approaches and simple methods helped them in articulating and enunciating far off better than when they began. !
