According to researches, it is scientifically proved that tobacco is the largest cause for lung cancer and marijuana has no tobacco, unlike cigarettes. The research that used to claim that marijuana is worse for your lungs than tobacco clearly shows the exact opposite of that. The research says that one joint of marijuana equals smoking up to five cigarettes in term of lung problems.
Actually, the researches didn’t even show that one joint of marijuana equals five cigarettes, the researchers say it was from 2.5 to 5, but attention-seeker reporters put it was 5 just to draw people’s attention.
When talking about lungs, the two biggest concerns are emphysema and lung cancer. Briefly, emphysema is a lung disease which reduces the ability of the lungs to expel air, a process which depends on the elasticity of the lungs.
Lung cancer is a disease caused by the uncontrolled cell growth in tissues (groups of cells) of the lungs. Tobacco is much worse in both categories. Emphysema was found in only 1.3% of the marijuana smokers, while it was detected in 16.3% of the cigarettes smokers, which is about 15% more!
Talking about lung cancer, the case is even worse. Evidence shows that marijuana has no negative effect at all regarding lung cancer, quite the opposite, it actually helps prevent it! Researchers from Harvard University have discovered, in both mouse and laboratory studies that the active ingredient in marijuana, cuts the cancer tumor growth in half while stopping the cancer’s ability to spread.
Now, for common sense: it is easy to understand that tobacco smokers smoke a lot more than marijuana smokers. Even if marijuana is a little bit harmful
