Movie Speech Analysis- Mean Girls The 2004 movie, Mean Girls, may be portrayed as the typical chick flick; however, there are essential scenes in the movie that exemplify great life lessons. After moving from Africa to an American high school, Cady Heron\ Lindsey Lohan, makes friends with the wrong group of people, which consist of three girls called "The Plastics”. The girls are able to change Cady’s viewpoints, decisions, morals, and actions that she grew up being accustomed to. Trying to fit in, she and the three girls from the IT table write in a burn book that is filled with rumors humiliating faculty and students from their high school. At first, Cady is trying to adapt to
the way public school is. Throughout the movie, there is a lot of tension with the girls. She goes on a bumpy roller coaster ride through a series of conflict drama and in the end, she gets blamed for supposedly pushing the most popular girl, Regina George, in front of a bus and confesses to writing the Burn Book although no one else came clean. Now without friends, a boyfriend, and no student body population to associate with, Cady is shocked at winning the election for Spring Fling Queen. Since the votes were counted before she took fault for the Burn Book; and, because of the false rumor she was accused of, Cady knows that the high school students do not support her as being queen; which is why she decides to make amends in her Spring Fling Crowning Speech. Cady was shocked that she won the title for Spring Fling Queen, Cady, who was not prepared for a winning speech, was left without words. She managed to ramble up a heartfelt speech that contained great imagery of the true character she portrayed. Cady, the speaker, began her speech addressing her student body she was sorry with how things turned out. Her message was very sincere and she created a deep channel with her audience. The students listened very well to what she had to say, despite some interference from the principal telling Cady she did not have to give a speech. Cady started off by saying half the student body were mad at her because of the burn book and half of the student body liked her for pushing the stuck up popular girl in front of a bus. Holding the crown in her hand, she addressed to her peers that she had never been to a school dance and was confused to why people all wanted to be crowned queen. She went on pointing out that her peers all looked like royalty and everyone was deserving to be crowned royal. Fed up with teenage girl drama and feud, Cady breaks the crown in pieces announcing that it is just a piece of plastic. She then distributed it amongst her fellow royal court and other classmates. She received positive feedback from her student body. They all started clapping and cheering her on because she taught the entire school on what a real person is. Although her speech was in the form of an impromptu, she mastered at tailoring it right to her audience and reached her specific goal. She expressed her central idea to her classmates and ended memorably by saying, we are all royalty despite of our disabilities, interests, and appearances.
