How does Speed, Drugs, Distractions, Vehicle safety and Fatigue contribute to road accidents?
Speed
Speed is one of the most fatal contributing factors in road crashes around Australia. Often speeding in the excessive amounts or speeding over the legal limit is recognized as being a major contributor in the severity of a crash as well as the number of crashes. Speeding on the road not only reduces vehicle control but also limits a person’s capability to react and brake if an obstruction or vehicle is present on the road. An increase in the speed of a vehicle leads to lowered brain awareness and reaction times on the road, aspects such as unawareness and lack of efficient reaction time leads to the increased likely hood …show more content…
The level of safety in vehicle can greatly impact on the rate of survival a driver will have if involved in a road accident. A vehicle’s level of safety can vary depending on the technology, structure and other safety measures implemented into a vehicles designs. These features include, Auto Emergency Braking (AEB), seat belts, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), airbags, Anti-lock braking system (ABS), traction control, intelligent speed assists (ISA) and more features. However if these safety measures are not put into a vehicle or if they are deemed faulty then the likely hood of a fatal crash would become more realistic. Faulty technology is also a factor that can be observed as being a factor which contributes to road accidents throughout …show more content…
The safety standards and technology of vehicle today, has unquestionably allowed for the saving of many lives in Australian road accidents. It is not difficult to realize the danger a faulty safety feature can have on a road and the increased possibility for a fatal road accident. However many Australians are unaware of the dangerous implications this can have onto their own lives. Without a doubt this factor can be seen as a contributor to road accidents in Australia.
Fatigue
Quite unsurprisingly driver fatigue has been recorded as being a top 3 in contributing to road accidents. Although this fact is not well-known fatigue plays a significant role in the contribution of road accidents in Australia. Fatigue has been associated with all different age groups but younger age groups such as young adults and teenager have been observed as being the most prone to fatigue.
Fatigue comes from the deprivation of sleep from the brain and body. Sleep is much needed factor to allow for concentration and focus. If sleep is derived from a driver, the driver may experience side effects while driving. These include drowsy behavior, slower reaction times, and sluggish behavior. Because of the deprivation and need for sleep the body reacts in way that it become almost impossible to drive safely on the road while fatigued. Because of factors like these, fatigue has been seen as a
