On occasion, certain events happen that have no explanation to why or how it happened. It leaves you thinking, “why me?” Ever so often ife just wants to wake you up from your slumber and help you learn an important lesson. Even though it might be one of the happiest or most depressing thing that has ever happened to you, it helps you learn and grow as a human being. The most unexpected event that happened is when my cousin Ben passed away. Ben, who was my cousin, was one of my closest friends. In July, he had just turned 18 and would soon be heading off for college. I would be in 6th grade that same year. Ben was ecstatic for me and he always called me a Temple Tot. Everyone surrounding him would be hysterical because of all of the ridiculous jokes he spoke of. Ben used to tell me all of funny stories from when I was little, especially the story of when I would stop at nothing to pet the kittens in the tree. Ben had touched everyone's lives in some shape or another. …show more content…

Spina Bifida is a spinal defect which often causes the person to be paralyzed. Because of this, he was paralyzed from the waist down and was in a wheelchair. One joke that always brought him down was when a bunch of boys asked him if he wanted to play tackle football. They all laughed at him and ran away, leaving him in the dust. My cousin was a true inspiration to me and many others. He would never give up and was always as optimistic as

Anger. He struggled with anger management issues, which led him to attempted harm of a friend, and his own mother, but faith and reasoning saved Ben Carson from his problems. Through faith, hard work, and diligence Carson overcame the odds of being a young african american male from a one parent home, and got accepted into one of the most prestigious universities in the country, and to later become one of the greatest neurosurgeons in the world. That's what appeals me about Ben Carson, not the fact that he was the first to separate two conjoined twins, not that fact that he won the Presidential Medal of Freedom, but the fact that he was like me and you, human. A human with his own personal struggles, but despite his situation, he overcame society’s expectations of people like him. He wasn’t willing to be what people expected of him, he wasn’t willing to blame his situation for his failure, he blamed himself, and worked hard to achieve success. That's why I am inspired by Dr. Ben Carson, because he overcame the odds, and his situations, and relied on his faith and hardwork to achieve…

My Aunt Caprice owned a large house and a couple acres of land which my brother and I would roam anytime we visited. Every Christmas Eve my mother would drive us over to Aunt Caprice’s house to visit her family and other close family friends. My Uncle Roger would take me around the property and let me collect chicken eggs for him. This taught me the value of hard work and was a humbling experience for me in my youth. My cousins, Bryan and Brent were very close to my brother and I, we would often hang out in the backyard either jumping on the trampoline or playing video games with each other. Some of my favorite memories were spent at that house, especially on Christmas to see family or just to go over and watch Dallas Cowboys games with…

One day returning from football practice on a Thursday evening while in high school, I fell asleep at the wheel. I was surprised to wake to the sound of my truck pulverizing a NO PARKING sign on the side of the road. As I opened my eyes to the sight of the majestic waters of Lake D’Arbonne, I began to panic. My truck left the road on the right side and proceeded towards the water, mowing down a freshly planted crepe myrtle tree before I could get it stopped. These types of events tend to stick out in our minds. The surprise factor first came into play, followed by the thoughts of the consequences. One of these particular consequences being that if I didn’t get my truck stopped that I would soon be in the lake. To top it off, I had to explain to my parents why my truck was torn up and why it seemed to have grown a crepe myrtle bush from the underside of my passenger…

Everyone has peaceful and strange events that occurred in their lifetime. There are several chances that one expects something pleasant to happen and it comes true. On the other side, an occasion doesn’t appear when somebody expects it. I can explain this with my personal account of Hurricane Sandy, an event that occurred on October 29, 2012 and ended on November 2, 2012. This affected the northeast portion of the United States. As a result of this event, I had lost power, had a tough time doing tasks, and took my education away. On the other hand, I was thankful that the disaster ended a few days later.…

First, Dr. Ben Carson was considered a modern day hero because he overcame adversity. For example, Dr. Ben Carson overcame adversity because he had a single mother who did not know how to read, yet she pushed him into achieving excellent grades and he became the best pediatric neurosurgeon in the nation. An article indicates, “ With only a third grade education herself, Sonya Carson prayed diligently for wisdom to help Ben and his older brother Curtis to succeed in school” (“Carson” Internet). Having a single mother is hard on children because they did not have as much support as children with two parents. Sonya Carson helped Ben and Curtis as much as she could because she did not want to be the typical single mother. Even though she could not read, Sonya strived for the…

Growing up I did not have that many friends. There were a few that I talked to, but only a handful that I truly felt close to. I did, however, meet who was and still is one of my closest friends. We knew each other through first grade, and we remained close until third grade; that was the year he had to move away. I remember him leaving hitting me hard, even though I was young I was still crushed at the harsh disappearance of my friend. It wasn't until seventh grade that we reconnected. He had moved back to the Southeast Polk school district, and we happened to have the same science class. After that, we started hanging out again, and he had told me about his time away. We lived very different lives, and when he told me about…

I made a friend with a 30-year old man, it was unbelievable but I didn’t think that way. He was someone I could talk to, I could play with, and he’s the kind of person you can get along so easily. One time, I saw him by the window watering the orchids and plants. I went downstairs to look how he does the watering. He saw me and said “Hi there!” I smiled and went closer to him. “What’s that?” I asked. “It’s a fertilizer.” He replied. “Why do you put that?” I asked again. “It’s for the plants to grow healthy.” I keep on asking questions but he never gets tired of answering. So basically, I was a kid who needs answers. He was like a teacher and he’s a good artist too. Whenever I have projects, he would give me his time to do it. When he picks me up at school, and by the time I finished my homework, I would go to him and spend time asking and learning new things from him. He was a good man after all.…
