Spinks: A Fictional Narrative
I resisted the urge in my hand to punch Mr. Spinks in his stupid smirk. CJ looked like he was about to murder Spinks, and Jeff looked shocked. “Is anyone else hallucinating?” Jeff asked. I knew it was Spinks. Only he could have survived a crash, scared Jena, and ran off into the woods, only to reveal himself with his stupid catchphrase. But I was also glad to see him. As the adult he would rescue us, lead us to safety, and- “The first thing you guys have to do when we get to where you guys do your freshman stuff is write me a five paragraph essay. Then, I will have you three get me some food, and water. Capeesh?” Spinks said. “Capunch,” said CJ, giving Spinks a full right hook to his schnoz. “CJ!?!?!” Jena said, running up with Paisley. …show more content…
“But we aren’t going to interrogate him. Why would we? Spinks doesn’t have anything that we need.” I was a bit upset that no one got my little joke, so with my unmatched dignity I mumbled sulkily, “He has a cool spear.” Everyone rolled their eyes, and CJ and I started to carry Hector into the forest. We found a good spot, and started to dig a grave. We were silent as we did this, giving the dead some respect. We said a few words, and returned to the beach, just as Spinks woke up. Somehow, he managed to retain his cockiness with a broken nose. “Jena you hit hard, unlike your GPA!” he laughed. I was a little upset that he made a GPA joke that didn’t make sense (if he’s going to he might as well make it good) especially since he was tied up. I stepped forward. “Spinks, why the fu-” everyone looked at me as the I started to say, “-dge did you scare the crap out of Jena and then leave. It was like a white person drive by. And where were you? We could have used your leadership, and skills. Wait, never mind, just your leadership.” He looked at us all, and was about to open his mouth when Jena said, “Everyone, over here, team huddle now.” We all went over and Jena posed the question of the day, “So what do we do with

On January 10th, 1901, 10:30 AM, possibly the biggest and most influential events in all of oil history occurred in Beaumont, Texas. The Texas Oil Company, now known as Texaco, struck oil at a salt dome in southern Beaumont Texas. This was the biggest amount of oil the world had ever seen at the time. These wells on Spindletop would change the way we drilled, collected, used, and sold oil. Spindletop even raised concerns about conserving the oil. This gusher would change the way oil was drilled, collected, used and sold. The Spindletop oil field produced more than 20% of the United State’s oil at that time. Spindletop has an intriguing story that expands before and after the actual gusher, and that story involved many people…

The rattle of machine gun fire filled the air as the raiders hid behind a heavy steel desk. Sparks fell on Pierce's head as bullets hit the desktop and walls. When the clicking of empty mags sounded, the raiders opened fire at the vault guards. As the last guard fell, Pierce and his comrades went deeper into Vault 408. On the way the raiders picked up supplies, guns, and valuables. Once the cryo room was reached, a scarred man with a brown mohawk began directing the raiders. The man, Rik, was the leader of this group of raiders, and could order any one of these men to their deaths at a moments notice. Pierce had managed to keep on the good side of Rik as his right hand man, and had survived longer than most because of it.…

Vossk had pretended to be Human for some years now. In the darkness of an early abyss he had wondered what it meant to really, truly belong in a world-wide family of squishy, organic primates. He had come a long way since then, though, and briefly recollected the dreariness of those foggy, forgotten days. Despite those recollections, Vossk thought of himself as a legitimate, stable, and legitimately stable Human being who was just as worthy of the skin as anyone else that walked the Earth. On days like today, however, the thrill of being something that he was not was still not enough for Vossk Victus.…

Many people identify others by their race and the color of their skin. Jena appeared to be a racist town after everything broke out. “It’s about where we’re at. The South. This is being done to us because of geographics. We’re the South, so outsiders say Jena’s a racist town” (Eggers 205). In this sentence Garcia is stating that Jena was not always racist, outsiders who came into the city made it that way. People tend to judge the people and place an identity on others because of their geographic location, and the South just happens to have the reputation of being racist. However, as that sentence suggests not everyone in the South is racist, people make it racist by their judgments and actions. “We pray for the people who come to Jena. God loves them no matter what their agenda, although we feel their agenda is misplaced. We pray for our community to be patient. We pray for everything to be back to normal” (Eggers 204). People shouldn’t place an identity on others just because of their skin color and race. This quote speaks so strongly about how the town prays for those who are racist and that God still loves them, but they need to set their priorities straight before placing judgment against another person. I strongly disagree with how this whole event was handled because it shows how little our society has changed and how people today are still…

The word “spunk” is literally defined as a noun used to describe someone who has “informal courage or spirit” (****). The story “Spunk” by Zora Neale Hurston is about a disagreement between two men over a woman. The woman is married to a man named Joe Kanty and is adulterating with the town bully, Spunk. Ironically, Spunk’s attitude reflects the definition of the literal word. He is feared by everyone and fears no one, including Joe Kanty. Joe is completely the opposite and is a shy, weak man who mostly keeps to himself. Despite this stereotype, Joe later gains the courage to confront Spunk and attempt to kill him in an effort to get his wife back. As luck would have it, Joe fails in his attempt and Spunk ends up killing him. As the story progresses, Joe comes back to haunt Spunk, later resulting in his death.…
