Spiritual Assessment In Health Care

Spiritual care is an important part in the health care settings because it increases the coping ability to the patients against diseases and improves the speed of the recovery. “The spiritual dimension of humans has a multidimensional and complex nature with cognitive, emotional, and behavioral aspects” (Ebrahimi, Areshtanab, Khanmiri, & Jafarabadi, 2017). It is important to the health care providers to understand the patient’s spiritual care by performing spiritual assessment, so patient can receive quality of care while they are in the hospital. Researcher study has shown that the relationship of patient’s spirituality with their health and ability to cope with illness is now requirement to the organization to include spiritual assessment
She was very comfortable and open minded while the author had the conversation regarding spiritual or religious belief. The interview was about approximately 30 minutes; however, there were few barriers noted during completion of spiritual assessment. First issue was the time management which indicates that nurses has lack of time in hospital to complete spiritual assessment thoroughly because it would be great challenge for them. In this situation, the organization should have questionnaire of spiritual assessment to provide for each patient during admission and nurses can review it with them. She also addressed her daily practices that include meditation, prayer, listening Christian music resources used to cope with challenges, and beliefs about life and illness. Interviewee also shared the story of her father who had heart surgery at the age of 88 years. He recovered from surgery and he had no complication developed so far.
