Gustavo Gutierrez’s concept of “spiritual childhood” reflects on the importance for people to fulfill our own “spiritual childhood” in order to experience sincere solidarity with the poor. Spiritual childhood is a condition of commitment to the poor. It gives us the opportunity conversion through God's love only. It frees us to work in the service of god's kingdom. Through love, rather than our actions, salvation is made possible. Real poverty is when you are unable to obtain the goods for your basic human needs; according to Gutierrez, is evil.
