Many of the results from the experiment were very similar. For example, both Ocelo and Scotch Brite both got ⅓ cup, and ¼ cup. The auto sponges had the best results, and Ocelo and Scotch Brite were equal. Mr. Clean’s first test got the same as the last, and that also happened to Ocelo and Scotch Brite! Our control was the Auto sponge, and the independent variables Mr. Clean, Scotch Brite, and Ocello. The sponges seemed to …show more content…
Scientists are doing research about using enormous sponges as a way to clean spills, and scientists can learn which material is best for optimal soak-up. A problem faced in the experiment was drops of oil falling down onto the rocks. The drops were very few, but could be avoided if a tarp or something like it were placed under the bucket of oil. Also, not quite all the oil could get out of the sponge. A couple drips refused to come out. This could be avoided by measuring the amount of oil left in the container, and have a different container for each trial. Two future questions are; “Which shape of sponge is best for soaking up water?” and “Which oil is the hardest to clean using a sponge?”. Scientists would want to know if the amount of layers in a sponge affect the amount of oil soaked-up, and if a porous layer soaks up more oil than a non-porous sponge. These could be tested in almost the same way as the experiment
