Roles
A sports coach is someone who instructs, leads and trains a specific sportsmen or team of individuals. These coaches have various different roles and responsibilities that make them an effective sports coach. These roles can include; being an innovator, friend, manager or an educator, they all are important roles in being a coach, these ensure a certain degree of friendship, and respect.
In all sports or at least in most sports all these roles are required, however they can differ depending on the sport, the participants and the character of the coach. For example, coaching a football team of over 18’s will be different to teaching under 10’s in the same sport.

Whereas Toni Minichello took a more laid back approach when his training sessions were affected by Jessica’s pregnancy Ken took a much more dramatic path. Throughout Ken’s coaching, he showed that he cared a great deal about his team; he first showed this by making them sign a contract which he had drawn up. In this contract it stated that all individuals must achieve a 2.3 grade average even though the state only required students to achieve a 2.0 grade average. He wanted them to achieve a higher grade average because he knew that only 50% of athlete students didn’t graduate high school and that a 2.0 grade average would not be enough for them to pass. He wanted the best for his team; he wanted them to do well in their studies. This is because he understood that most of the students who wanted to be professional athletes in the future would not make their goal and he wanted to ensure they had a good education to fall back on. This shows a certain degree of friendship in the fact that he cared for his team individuals and he wanted to see the best in them and prepare them for the future even if they couldn’t see it at the same.
