continue there are other reasons such as academic failure. In the article it states, more than 20 nations have better graduation rates then we do , (Ripley 10) . In the same article by Amanda Ripley it says, sports are embedded in American schools in a way they are not like anywhere else in the world, (11). The reason America is lacking is because sports here are not like anywhere else in the world, they take competition to a :whole new level of competition. Other countries that are not as fortunate are achieving academic goals much further than the USA.
Academic failure is a very important issue ,however; kids also need time to relax. Players spend long hours practicing, (11). From late-nights band practice,to pep rallies, to meetings with parents, Ripley(11). The players go into late night practices, the couches which are often staff members go into late nights as well and the band members have to rehearse for the pep rallies so it affects all students and their time away from sports. Students need time at home to be close with there family, they also need time to have fun with there friends, after all they are kids and last of all students absolutely need time to sleep so they can be ready for the upcoming day and they can be healthy.
Sports have always been apart of American schools for a very long time. There is a fear that students will focus on sports much more than their school work. Schools should no longer continue with sports to help save money, focus on school as a main priority, and have more free time outside of school. As you can see there are many ways sports affect american school we have proof that students will focus on sports more which can cause no extra free time left for them and affect the school by spending money on things that are not needed. My research proves that although some students value sports greatly, school should always be the number one
priority.
