“During football season in particular, focus shifts away from learning,” says Amanda Ripley. (11). She also states, “Yet this fact rarely comes up in conversation about why America lags behind other countries academically” (10). This information illustrates why we need to shift the students focus back on track and get a more academic study time. With that being said, this shows students need more time to study and focus more on school. As it has been stated, students need more time to study; however, it is also important to focus on lowering the cost of sports. Amanda Ripley states, “new bleachers can cost half a million dollars” (10). “Maintaining a grass field can cost more than 20,000 dollars a year,” Amanda Ripley said (11). Schools should not be spending that much money on sports, but should be using it in the school’s classrooms to get new supplies. With that being said, it is important for schools to lower the cost of sports. There is no doubt that students have done better academically by suspending sports. There is no arguing that students have done better academically with more study time.Overall, students have done better academically, gained more study time, and have saved the school
