Bust Out the Wipes
While everyone should cover their mouth when they cough or sneeze, it does not always happen. Workers can stay safe by using alcohol-based wipes on their keyboard, desk, mouse and telephone. Anything that could be touched by someone else needs to be cleaned. If the office worker uses someone else's computer, they should wash their hands or use a hand sanitizer immediately …show more content…
afterward.
Hide From Disease: Keep Sick People Away
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, infectious diseases spread through droplets, contact or airborne infections.
Direct transmission occurs when someone comes in physical contact with the infected person. Droplets and airborne viruses can also spread through close contact with the infected individual or contaminated items. According to the CDC, the best way to prevent exposure to is avoid close contact with sick people. If you are sick, stay home from work to prevent the disease from spreading.
Your Hands Could Be the Problem
You use your hands to wipe your eyes, brush your hair and eat food. Unsurprisingly, dirty hands are one of the most common ways for a disease to spread. You should wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. If you do not have a chance to wash your hands throughout the day, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to kill the germs.
Skip the Grimy Kitchen Sponge
Most offices have a break room, dishes and cleaning supplies. Out of the many dirty sections of the break room, the worst offender is the kitchen sponge. The damp sponge creates a perfect environment for bacteria and disease to grow. Unless you want to risk an illness, avoid using any communal
sponges.
Roll Up Your Sleeves and Prepare for a Shot
Each year, office workers should get a flu shot. The virus changes from year to year, so a new shot must be given to prevent the disease. While washing your hands and cleaning your keyboard prevent the virus from spreading, a vaccine will ensure that you do not get sick no matter what you come in contact with.
Ideally, sick co-workers will stay home to avoid spreading disease. When this does not happen, it is important that you protect yourself from bacteria and viruses. Wash your hands regularly, get a flu shot and avoid contact with sick co-workers.
