Many thoughts circulate my head when thinking about what the Springfield Gas Scholarship would mean to me. Mainly, receiving the Springfield Gas Scholarship would alleviate the financial burden that I will face as a college student. Because I have a one parent income, it is difficult for my single father to completely support all the financial responsibilities that are required for a college student. With that being said, the rest of the financial burden will be put placed upon me. Overall, receiving the Springfield Gas Scholarship would mean far more than just help financially.
As a young child, my parents did not make the best of choices. My parents abused drugs and alcohol until one day they both went to jail. My dad stayed in prison for four years, while my mom was released. My mom did not decide to change her ways, while my dad learned from his mistakes. However, my dad still suffers from the consequences from his mistakes. With a criminal record, getting a good job was hard for him to come by. Therefore, my dad travels in order to make decent money. In college, I plan to major in social work: I yearn to not only be instructed to become a social worker but also desire to become more intelligent about different people and environments. Social work naturally leads you to different cultures and types of people; therefore, I feel that a degree in this field will help me become a more compassionate person.
