Verizon Wireless, the largest cell phone provider in the country, was founded in 1983 as Bell Atlantic and adopted the name Verizon in 1997 after the merger with NYNEX. Sprint Nextel Corporation, the third largest cell phone provider, was founded in 1898 but became Sprint Nextel in 2005 after the purchase of Nextel Communications by Sprint Communications. It is based out of Overland Park, KS. After a brief comparison, Sprint was cheaper and offers a comparable service area. Verizon was slightly more expensive but had a better service area and customer care. I will be comparing the financial statements of the two companies over the past three years in order to determine which company would become a better investment.…

While not in the mission statement I think that the environmental page speaks wonders as to the type of company that we are describing. The funny thing I notice about companies that tout their green status is that typically the things they tout are actually cost saving policies with the added benefit of being “good” for the environment. I personally feel that that applies to this situation as well mostly but I can’t blame them because ultimately the cost is what will decide on what actions get taken but they seem to at least consider the environment and not just the cost benefit (Environmental, 2015).…

Hello Mariah, Great post this week describing low-cost provider strategy, broad differentiation strategy and focused low-cost strategy. I enjoyed reading your discussion comparing Verizon and AT&T services. I remember about 10 years ago or maybe longer when AT&T came out with U-verse service and I absolutely loved the feature of watching your recorded shows on any TV. I have Verizon service through my work and they do have the good coverage nationwide compared to Sprint. My wife has Sprint and many areas including in the Kitchen she gets drop calls or no signals and she will use my phone for texting/phone calls. There is one thing I like about Sprint is unlimited data plan at a reasonable price with no hidden fees. I agree with you that…

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only” (Dickens 1).…
