Typically I am a very fast reader, which is a benefit and a drawback. The drawback to reading so quickly is missing information or retaining it for recall. The benefit is I can usually get through a lot of reading material fairly quickly. Using the SQ3R method to read the course material benefitted me greatly by letting me read quickly for skimming headings or sub headings to get a preview of the material I was about to read. As stated in the text I then turning headings and sub headings into questions I slowed down my reading to find the answer to those questions, in turn reading the entire course material slower comprehending and retaining more of the information. (Connell & Sole, 2013) Using the SQR3 method will greatly improve my reading technique for work, I typically spend a lot of time reading Air Force instructions to answer upper echelon questions, and I feel this method will make me more efficient at finding and understanding the material I need. I attempted to read a news article using the SQR3 technique, it was not very useful in the respect I was not trying to retain the information for long periods of time.
