I am so blessed to do all these hard work just to put a smile on my parent's face. I work 6 days and i only have Sundays off and i spend it in church and the rest of the day with my friends. i want to be an occupational therapist , i really want to achieve that goal. I love to help people anywhere i go. I serve at my Coptic orthodox church here in Queens Ridegwood, and also i used to serve in Egypt. I serve in Sundays school and try to help children . I am a choir member at my church, which helps and provides me with the skills I need to work with others on achieving a specific goal. I enjoy helping others and try to help kids in different ways according to their needs. I see myself as a strong person that faced so many obstacles for being the oldest daughter. I totally have a different personality than my parents and siblings. I feel like i can handle any situation and i always like to be different than anyone else. i love to make friends anywhere i go and to keep in touch with them for ever. Actually, i still have Friends since we were in kindergarten. lastly, one of the topics that I really interested to discuss in class is RELIGION ( Islam specific ) and how is Islam created? And why Muslims people are killing Christian under the name of Allah (especially Egypt).
It’s my pleasure to meet such a great professor like pro. Miguelina Rodriguez.

Getting an education is important to me for numerous reasons, one of which is I’ll be the first one to go to college on my Father’s side of the family. I want to talk about how I came across obstacles in my life in America. I was only eleven years old when I came to United States. I started going to school few months before 5th grade end. Then when I was in 6th Grade, I was the only Burmese person in school. I was bullied and insulted in school for who I am and where I came from. Before I came to United States, I thought everybody would be friendly to me and help me in anyway that they can, because I’ve been hearing all the great things about United States. When I got here, it was totally opposite of what I thought it would be. I had no fun going to school. All I thought about was to go back to my country, but something inside of me kept telling me that I have to work hard to make my parents…

It is an awakening, a revival, and the beginning of a wondrous journey. This was my first day in United States, I felt lonesome and desolate, these emotions were just like a monster that destroyed all my positive thoughts. Language and culture differences made me nervous and frustrated, and also hindered me from being able to integrate into the new environment. I was reticent and apathetic when I first entered school and since I don’t talked a lot, only a few classmates wanted to be close to me. I wanted to have more friends, but I didn’t know what to do so I waited for people to come to me. Apparently later, nobody came up and made friend with me. I realized that waiting was not helpful, stepping up and talking to people could eventually benefited me more than any other things. So I started to open myself to people around me and be affable, communicative, and helpful to them. Gradually, my personality became more outgoing and enthusiastic, some people liked to talk to me and some even wanted to share their ideas, opinions to me. My life is becoming interesting and exciting, everyday I get to know various people and enrich myself by learning from them. My experience of language and culture was just as my social life where I afraid to talk and ask. It was unacquainted in the first time when I asked question to a person in the street. But several times of trying and practicing helped me to be more accessible…

Steinbeck finally shows how socially incapable Crooks is when he describes him as merely the “backup”. Since Slim is in the bunkhouse discussing with George and Lennie, he is not available to play the beloved game of horseshoes. Due to this, Crooks is the only one to take his place. The readers are then shown the discomfort Carlson has with him playing, he exclaims in frustration “Jesus, how that nigger can toss shoes” (44). With the anger in Carlson’s voice, and the fact that Slim is not playing, the conclusion can be drawn that Crooks only plays with needed or convenient for others. Steinbeck shows that Crooks is socially isolated not because of how good he is, which is shown in the quote, but only because of his skin tone being different.…
