The route that St.
Therese and St. Clare of Assisi took towards religious life were very different. Therese and Clare both had many trials and tribulations on their road to religious life. Therese struggled to get permission from the Bishop and the Holy Father to enter the Carmel, while Clare struggled to escape her family and run away to the religious life. Both of their families had different reactions towards their daughters wanting to become a sister. St. Therese’s father was very happy with Therese’s decision to become a nun, while Clare’s father and uncle were very adamant about Clare entering the religious life and would do anything to prevent her from doing so. Both women had a difficult road towards life as a
religious. These two saints lived a life of faith and devotion to God. Both women founded an order or a way of living. Clare founded the order called the Poor Clares, and Therese founded the Little Way. Both of their orders helped to better the lives of others. St. Clares order went around helping the poor and the needy while St Therese’s little way helped to better people’s souls. These two women both wanted to live a life completely devoted to God. Both Therese and Clare from a young age wanted to become a sister. These saints are very devoted to God. The upbringing, journey to sisterhood, and faith of these holy women have many similarities as well as many differences. Therese was raised to join religious life while Clare was raised to become a wife to a wealthy man. They both had a very different journey to sisterhood one which was easy and the other filled with many trials. Therese and Clare both had a deep devotion to God, and both made religious foundings.
