Music adds a tremendous aspect to the whole ambience of the church. The Cathedral Organs consists of more than 9,000 pipes, 206 stops, 150 ranks, and 10 divisions. Located behind the Organs over the west portal is the grand Rose Window one of the windows in which bathes the walls and floors with natural light that streams through the stained glass. The Cathedral also has 19 bells that echo throughout the busy street and can be heard during the times of 8am, noon and 6pm from Monday through Saturday and on Sunday, every 15 minutes from 10am until noon, and every 15 minutes from 5 to 7pm. Also while we were there, we got to hear the choir practicing. As we walked around in astonishment, listening to the bells, the organs, and the choir, there was a feeling of serenity and peacefulness that created a natural hush from everyone there.
There were many people that we saw that were sitting in the pews that were in prayer, self-reflection, silent wonderment, and there were even a few people we found asleep in the back corners of the Cathedral. We also noticed a couple of priests who were smiling and talking with one another. Patrick's cathedral has the perfect location of Midtown Manhattan because it is right in the heart of New York City, so people can take time away from their busy hectic schedules and just walk into the church for prayer or silent meditation. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a prominent New York City landmark. In 2017, everyone is always on the run with somewhere to go and someone to see and often we forget to incorporate prayer into our daily lives. We cannot forget to say thanks for all that god has given us. We also can go there to say a prayers for people in need, people who need God’s love and direction. St. Patrick’s Cathedral is the perfect place to go after a long day to pray and say a prayer to god to say thank you for the life he has given you. When we were there many people had shopping bags and brief cases and just came in after a day of shopping and work to pray and reflect on their day. The cathedral was calm and peaceful, despite being right in the middle of New York
