Rita. Before she died in the spring, she asked her cousin to get her a rose from her garden. Her cousin thought that she was crazy because there was no way that there would be any roses that had grown since the season was still winter. When her cousin went to her to the garden, there were two full-grown roses. Another symbol for St. Rita are bees. When St. Rita was a young child, her cradle was surrounded with bees. From there on forward, bees would always surround her bed while she slept. Thorns and a wounded head is also associated with St. Rita. Rita’s birth was a complete miracle with her parents being so “old” at the time. Even with St. Rita being rejected not only by her parents but also by the convent from being a nun she continued to work at being accepted. She continued until they finally accepted her. She pleased her parents by living out the life that they wanted for her. She lived the traditional Christian life by getting married and having two sons. Then she dealt with her abusive husband for 18 years until he was stabbed and killed. She prayed for her sons’ lives to be taken instead of them taking revenge on her husband’s killer. She dealt with 3 losses in her life but continued to follow God.
