The more we are standing up for ourselves the more self-confident and self-respect we gain. We all have the right to decide the way we want to live. When others dictate what we should think, feel and do, it eats away at our self-confidence. We begin to distrust our own instincts and lose the ability to decipher what we really believe versus what everyone wants us to believe. Furthermore, if we just follow others and don’t have the confidence to speak for us, we are living their dreams not ours.
Our sense of self is also strongly developed. We start to loose your identity as we bow to someone else and do their way of things. Thus, the less we allow ourselves to think freely, the more we become a follower. Maintaining our own methods and opinions allows us to think freely and develop a unique identity. Our beliefs are representative of the authentic in us. By taking a stand for what we believe in we are inevitably building up courage in ourselves. Courage is something we are going to need to have if we ever want to change the world or stand out from the crowd. It is an essential skill that we all need in life and if we don’t have it, our options are limited.
