Statement Of Purpose: Catholic Charities
I want to start by saying I haven’t done any service yet because Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte is waiting for my references to get back in touch with them. I have communicated with my references so that they will do that as soon as possible. I apologize for this situation professor. The program that I am working with is Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte and they are a Christian ministry of charity, service, and justice. Their mission is dedicated to providing help to those in need, hope to those in despair, and inspiration for others to follow. They are faithful to their teachings and they are active advocates for social justice. They work to assist clients in developing and strengthening their God-given talents and abilities. After watching the movie What about Bob, I chose to write about the Character of Dr Marvin, the psychiatrist who goes on a vacation with his family and finds Bob, one of his multi-phobic patients, following him everywhere because of being attached to him. Dr Marvin chooses to act negatively to what Bob is doing and shows three different ways or mechanisms to deal with his anger. These mechanisms are denial, projection and displacement.…

I’ve been involved with a organization called Klothe-a-Kid since 7th grade. It’s main purpose is to provide supplies to those in need in rural parts of Kentucky. Through it, I’ve been fortunate enough to work organizing and passing out clothes, school supplies, food, and more to my surrounding neighborhoods and counties. Since Klothe-a-Kid is a Christian-based service, I’ve also been fortunate enough to introduce several new people to my faith while meeting them through the monthly events KAK holds. I believe the reason I consider Klothe-a-Kid to be one of my most significant involvements in my community is because of the scope of which I am allowed to work. I am able to schedule new events in concord with the founder of KAK, for places which…

Social justice is defined as justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society. An abused and neglected child is not given wealth, opportunities or privileges, so by removing them from a dangerous environment, this organization is giving these youth an opportunity to succeed as well as giving them privileges that they would not have received otherwise, such as a home, or a chance at higher education. This allows them to get another chance in life, while being away from their previous, dangerous environment. They also follow in the catholic teachings of social justice, as one of the base foundations of their teachings is “Option for the Poor & Vulnerable.” Homeless or abused youth are considered to be very vulnerable, as they tend to struggle emotionally, as such, this organization fulfills this teaching by giving these youth an option to receive a new…

In choosing this option I think that the organization fell short in revealing the exact purpose of their organization. It states that they organize, develop, and support families but my question is how? The mission statement failed in letting me know the activities that they do to help organize, develop and support strong families. I equated that the value being “where children matter most”.…

The motto for the United Methodist Church is “Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the World.” Michele told me that they do not require her to be Methodist to work for them. She said, “They are very open to others.” She told me that they are very Reverent and sing songs together and pray before meetings. (She informed me that the songs they sing are not the same ones used by the Catholic Church.) The people who are allowed to perform mass are called Clergy or Reverend. They can be male or female, married or single, with or without children. I had a chance to meet Reverend Deborah Thompson, Missions Coordinator who told me that the Religion is very strong into the idea of Missions. They go to help people in any way they can, by raising money, or even by cleaning homes damaged by natural disasters such as in Haiti and to help the victims of hurricane Katrina. The Sun Prairie office was designated in 2008 by the federal government to administer funding to the victims of very bad flooding in the State of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Conference has adopted…

    Uniform Crime Report

The Uniform Crime Report (UCR) was designed, developed and implemented by law enforcement for use as a tool for operational and administrative purposes (Uniform, 2004). The program was developed in 1929 under the auspices of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and was later endorsed by the National Sheriff’s Association, which acts in an advisory capacity today. It was the first comprehensive system of crime information developed on a national scale. Because statutes varied so greatly from state to state in their use of terminology for describing criminal behavior, a set of definitions was developed for criminal acts to overcome this problem and it was determined that law enforcement would tabulate the number of criminal acts as defined by the UCR program as they were brought to the attention of law enforcement. Because of the volume involved, it was decided that only serious criminal acts would be counted.…

I have a heart for community service, which led me to join the Social Justice ministry at First Corinthian Baptist Church (FCBC) in Harlem. I traveled with the ministry to Albany, NY to attend an education lobby and rally day, for the first time. Once we arrived, we met with an assemblyman and advocated for his support of Universal Pre-K (UPK); which would provide free full-day prekindergarten classes for all the four-year old children in New York. The UPK was approved and it was rewarding to have advocated for a program that was successful, and would benefit my community. After this experience, I participated in the Advocacy Academy with the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies. This was an inter-faith advocacy training that prepared me to continue advocating with the Social Justice ministry. Upon completion, I earned a Community Advocate Certificate.…
