Since we work with many nonprofit and volunteer based organizations we encourage everyone to volunteer and donate time as they see fit with the following guidelines;…
Eric Schlosser wrote a book called Fast Food Nation in 2001. “Kid Kustomers” was a chapter in Schlosser’s book where he aimed to inform the readers about businesses using their advertisements to target children. By citing credible sources, using studies and statistics, applying emotional appeal, and using good word choice Schlosser created a strong essay.…
Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…
Arriviste: having done wrong, achieving success by dubious means: “Comics have always been an arriviste art form, and all upstairs are to some degree ashamed of their beginnings . . .”…
Once a month, our organization, Ketchikan CPOA helps the local Salvation Army Soup Kitchen prepare meals, serve and clean up, I have dedicated three years of monthly service to helping plan, prep, and cook and serve the citizens of Ketchikan, AK who need it. This service has had a profound effect on my life. The most memorable time I can recall was my first time attending the soup kitchen. I enjoyed meeting the staff at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, working with my fellow Coast Guard men and women to prep the meal, and to meet the patrons who attended breakfast that day.…
The place that I decided to volunteer at was the St. Thomas Church Pantry. The purpose of this service is to get food to people who have fallen upon tough financial times. One business skill that this group needs to keep the food pantry running is marketing skills. One of the struggles that food pantries have is not getting enough food donations of items they need. So, the leader of the pantry must ask for donations of the items that they run low on. This also means that the volunteers at the Pantry must take inventory on food items to ensure that they will not run out of certain food items. Also, they have to have a volunteer schedule just like most businesses this is to ensure that at least two volunteers will be working during the two days of the week that the Pantry is…
My placement is a charity organisation involved with the promotion of children’s wellbeing with intervention programmes such as mentoring, group work including focus sessions and after school activities. Funded by Wandsworth Council this organisation receives their referrals directly from children’s services or schools in which the children attend.…
Bringing people together encouraging human unity is a gift. Participating in service demonstrates that a person cares for others. There is no measurement for service to society, it is what helps to make the world a better place. I provide service regularly at my church, City Of Faith Church Of God. The congregation inspires me to give as much of me to them, as I possibly can. Working at. The church food pantry brings me joy.feeding citizens who are without the basics, food, and seeing the look of relief on their faces is one of the greatest experiences. Additionally, preparing for the culmination of "Child's Month Celebration" has been a lot of fun. Designing the logo based on the theme of "Be A Winner and Join The Race" was a fulfilling role. As a nominee of the National Honors Society , my mind overflows with ideas of how we can serve in our community. Some tasks we can fulfill include visiting the elderly. I am certain that they would appreciate and enjoy us going to read and/or listen them. Helping to clean our school environment would also be a good use of our service. In addition, I believe that academic tutoring from members of the Honors Society to students at NFA, other schools in the district, and the public library would be very useful and effective. Our service is important and would be very effective in our…

In class, Dr.Moore always reminds us that his job it to prepare us to be global citizens. He emphasizes the importance of being aware of other people’s perspectives, backgrounds, and beliefs. Last Saturday, I volunteered at Spirit Fest with Holt International. Spirit Fest is a multi-religious festival at the Circuit of the Americas, with live band performances and booths for multiple organizations. Holt International is an organization that focuses on family strengthening, orphan care, and adoption services on a worldwide scale. I helped run a booth to encourage people to donate and sponsor a child from developing countries, anywhere from Haiti to Cambodia to Mongolia. Holt International provides these kids with access to education, nutrition, and medicine. There were countless stories of children left in orphanages or on the verge of…
I asked myself, “what can I do to make an impact on my community?”. That is when I founded my high school’s Red Cross Club. We aimed to push the vision-mission, “to alleviate human suffering through volunteering and donations” to the student body to make a change in our community. I initially started with only three other members, however, we bolstered our ranks by over 20+ members in two weeks. Balancing 7 AP and PreAP classes, such as Biology and US History, proved to be a challenge for management of the club. Keeping up with extracurriculars was not always easy however, I always made time to supervise my club. Being a leader at times was very frustrating, but overall it was a very positive experience. While I did slave for the club, it never felt like work to me because I felt very passionate helping others. The Red Cross Club became my medium for making a positive impression on my environment. Through the cooperation of my school’s class officers and my own members, we did donations like can drives around Thanksgiving to help soften the burden of low income families in inner Houston. In addition, with collaboration with Student Council, we fundraised and donated to sponsor underprivileged children during Christmas. Being a part of this club has made a positive impact on my life to be great. My experiences at the club made me develop a strong work ethic, and useful leadership experience to be used in…
It’s very difficult when we are in school to find the time to do what we love as disciples, which is to lead others to Christ. After working a full-time job I come home to do work for my company, Unique Expressions which is a promotional company. I met with a customer about four weeks about to do some flyers for his restaurant, once I completed them. He asked me a few weeks later to do a second flyer for his ministry called “Empowerment” he begin to tell me how he goes around the community and invite them in for a short message in the word, prayer and koinonia . This is not the nicest community but one where most of the lower working class resides.…
I’ve held an interest in service from an early age, from volunteering what free time I had to accepting the responsibilities of several leadership positions. I believe it all stems from two places, being raised on a farm and of the Christian faith. Our family farm in south central Oklahoma is where I was taught hard work, compassion, management, responsibility and hope. My father has stated how it is morally wrong for a farmer to only produce enough food for himself. I have to agree, especially as American agriculturalist, our duty is to the consumer not ourselves. Feeding the world is an important job and I was taught not to take it lightly. Through my faith I was taught that my life should not be lived to only benefit myself. The Bible has many lessons about how to treat your neighbor; lessons that I believe reflect the mission of the Peace Corps.…
During my fall break, I decided to volunteer and help Joyce Gamarra with the cards or anything she needed help with. Mrs. Gamarra first offered me to go with her to a meeting at Wake Baptist hospital to meet with other community leaders to help organize programs in Forsyth County. On October 5th , the day of the event Mrs. Gamarra said that there was another thing that came up that devoted her attention more. I was understanding but I wanted to gain experience in a different way. At this point, I realize that I can only do paper and data work, because that is it more stable and easier for me to do. Mrs. Gamarra and my schedule does not always connect. On October 7th, Mrs. Gamarra asked me to research Safety Net Clinic in the nearby counties.…
I have served my Church community by participating as an altar server and singing in the Colts Chorus. Both activities encourage me to actively participate in the mass. I also serve my school by participating in the Safety Committee, Environmental Club, and Beta Club. These groups help in school fundraisers, such as Jeans Days. The Squires and Junior High Youth Group help both the Church and the community through activities such as The Special Olympics. They also support groups such as Pro-Life. These are groups that work for the…
