India is a country of villages. More than half of the people living in India reside in village. Farming is the main and most chosen occupation of people living in villages. Therefore majority of Indians are farmers.an Indian farmer used to be the very picture of simplicity, but today things are changing. Farmers in states like Punjab, Haryana and Kerala are no longer simple. Some of them are well-educated and practice mechanized farming; like sowing machines and harvesting machines. Even today in some parts of India farmers still use old implements like the plough.
The job of the Indian farmer on the whole is hard and unenviable. He has to toil in the scorching heat in the summer and in the biting cold in the winter. Every year, our farmers either suffer due to droughts or floods during the Monsoon season. Floods are caused by incessant rains or cyclones destroy crops, houses and even crops. Cyclones are very common along the eastern coast of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.
In some states like Punjab, Haryana Uttar Pradesh, there are good irrigation facilities.in places where there is no good irrigation facilities, the farmers depend on the monsoons. Often the monsoons fail and the farmers suffer from the drought that follows.
The majority of farmers are open and simple by nature, they are generous and friendly. These farmers are kindhearted and hospitable; also they lead a carefree life.
