Status In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe

Most people will say that the world needs status because it makes lazy individuals strive to get to the “top” just like Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart. In this story, by Chinua Achebe, a man named Okonkwo who lives his life without emotions so that everyone in his village views him as manley. He is often very aggressive in the story and takes titles and ranks very seriously so that he doesn't end up like his father, who was poor and had no title. The village in the book has many different types of status that people can gain; these goals that the people have, creates a negative atmosphere in the book which then causes a lot of problems within the story and within our world as well. So if this method has been around for a while, then why don't we put a stop to it and instead implement a system that builds positivity.
People who are ranked higher are respect more and most people are afraid of them because they have the power to do anything. Though many times your rank will contribute to how hard you work like Okonkwo, who used to be praised by leaders because he was hardworking and he got respect for it (Page 8). He became so used to being rewarded for his attitude that if he started to get worried about being seen as unmanly because it will lower his status. He even kills Ikemefuna, his son-like servant, because he thought that if he didn't kill him, he would be seen as unmanly (page
