Born on November 13, 1955, in Hobbs, New Mexico, he was raised by a family of ropers. His dad, Tuffy, and his mom, Betty, were also champion ropers. It was in his blood to be great.
As a child he was severely afflicted with asthma which gave him little promise of becoming a professional roper. But by the time he was
twelve, he knew that is exactly what he wanted to be. As he entered high school, luckily, he had overcome his asthma and dedicated all of his time and focus to tie-down roping.
He became a champion not just in the high school ranks but also in the college and pro ranks. The Super Looper ended up making 20 trips to the National Finals Rodeo from 1976 to 1996.
He has coached hundreds and influenced thousands. He is said to be the best roper that has ever walked this earth. Even at age 60, he is still influencing the game.
Friends, I present to you the man, the legend, the super looper, Mr. Roy Cooper.
