Stephen King is known for horror and suspense, and he is the master of writing horror books (Kraft 1). Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine, on September 21, 1947. King is identified as a writer of horror fiction mostly because of three novels he published under the genre of horror (Senf 3). In the essay ”The Horror Writer and the Ten Bears” it reveals King’s familiarity with that tradition. In the essay it describes his personal fears in ascending order of importance. Some of King’s fears are death, an insect, closed-in places, rats, snakes, the deformity, “squishy things”, and the dark (Senf 3). Stephen King uses personal phobias infused with suspense and heightened writing in some of his most famous works.
His father Stephen King’s father abandoned his family when King was about 2 years old. King remembers nothing of his father except for running into a box of his father books (Senf 3). King is not familiar with his father, and his father missed out on King’s childhood. Even though King is not familiar with his father he has inherited some of his father characteristics. Some of the similar characteristics are to write and read novels.
His Mother
Stephen King’s mother was more influential with him, since she was more involved with his childhood. Mrs. King would read to him and later on in life she encouraged him to submit his manuscripts to publishers. King was always very thankful for his mother because she was always is there for him. In 1973 King’s mother passed away. He was very devastated because losing a loved one was one of King’s fears. When Mrs. King passed, King was not recognized as a writer yet (Senf 3). His mother was a big part of his life. In her Honor King dedicated two books to his mother including Dolores Claiborne (1993).
