Stereotypes In Astrology

Up in the twinkling night sky of the cosmos marvels a constellation of a Nemean Lion that I wholeheartedly relate to. In astrology, the fifth zodiac sign, Leo, originates from this constellation. During my youth, while buried under blankets, I fervently read horoscopes and zodiac personality descriptions in magazines. On a similar note, many children struggle to decipher their own identity and luckily, exploring astrological stereotypes tremendously helped me comprehend the inner workings of my mind. Learning about my zodiac sign was a remarkable comfort, it electrified me that I was the paradigm of a Leo. In between the words of astrology blogs revealed the answers to the “what” and “why” for my common idiosyncrasies. Those revelations of
a proud fiery zodiac sign manifest as my own characteristics. From my mannerisms to my physique, the Leo archetype illustrates who I am.
Since the symbol for Leo is a mighty lion, boasting a voluminous mane is, of course, a stereotype of those born under this sign. One of my most distinguishable features is my silky, straight, waist-length, black hair. Whether it’s because of favorable genetics or astrological luck, I frequently receive compliments on my luscious locks. Specifically, I’ll sit in class, lean back, and ruffle the tangles out of my hair. From behind me, my classmate, Humzah, whispers in response, “Karen, your hair is absolutely to die for!”
With hair so beautiful that others are envious, Leos, more likely than not, cherish their tresses dearly. For instance, when I was twelve I treasured my long locks. However, that vain little girl fell victim to unruly split ends. To save money, my mother cut my hair instead of scheduling an appointment at a salon.
“Those stylists don’t know your hair like your mother does!” she’d assert lovingly.
One afternoon, as she grasped scissors and hacked away at my hair, I noticed it alarmingly inching up shorter and shorter. As my mother unclipped the apron covering my shoulders from the chopped strands, my eyes swiftly widened with shock as I realized a supposed “hair trim” transformed to an undesired bob cut! With now hideously chin-length hair, I dramatically cried for the identity component that I lost. A lion isn’t a lion without its infamous mane! Fortunately, my hair recovered from that sorrowful time. Due to those circumstances, I no longer trust my mother with scissors. A Leo’s hair is far too valuable for atrocious styles.
Additionally, a second distinct Leo trait is their need for attention. If Maslow’s hierarchy of needs was structured with Leos in mind, attention would be on all five levels of the pyramid. They desire attention from friends and romantic companions in the interest of their own happiness. In fact, Leos may actively seek superficial recognition with bodacious approaches, such as exhibiting no constraint in the name of capturing the admiration of peers. An example of this scheme is directly sending selfies to friends solely to acquire praise. (Otherwise, who else will notice their new hairdo?) To satisfy a Leo’s need for attention, shower them with words of reassurance, bountiful encouragement, and the occasional compliment or two.
In addition, my experiences with middle school relationships confirm that the stereotype of needing attention is legitimate.
As a thirteen-year-old, my troubled heart pounded against my chest with distress if my boyfriend at the time was not completely focused on me! If the supposed apple of my eye ignored my text messages or disregarded my physical presence, my juvenile anguish would skyrocket. Funnily, the less attention I received, the more clingy I fired back. My young boyfriends then consequently broke up with me once they recognized my ridiculous clinginess. Nevertheless, it was not the end of the world. (Although my middle school self thought otherwise.) Despite boys kicking me to the curb, the end of those relationships informed me that receiving attention is a significant essential when it comes to my love life. Furthermore, Leos are one of the most self-assured zodiac signs. A Leo acknowledges that to achieve the attention they crave for, they must constantly gather internal and external confidence. For example, my confidence shines when I volunteer first for dreaded class activities, like answering difficult history questions or fishbowling in front of thirty students. For the most part, I strut with my head high, like a Leo ought to. Whether I’m pouting a bold fuchsia lipstick, rocking a middle hair part, or presenting to my peers, I possess no doubts that I appear anything but
ethereal.
Correspondingly, with all this self-confidence, Leos are exceedingly straightforward in life. For instance, if I’m lacking something from others, like more attention, I’ll explicitly state my thoughts without hesitation. Though this assertiveness results in jarring stares, I believe that life is way too short to settle for less. If a Leo detects that anything is unsatisfactory in their life, they’ll directly confront the situation. This straightforwardness may rub off as bossy; in fact, some of my friends have even complained so. However, I welcome the title of “bossy” as a compliment, not a put-down. Ultimately, I’m aware of my needs, and I refuse to shy away from demanding them!
On the contrary, though portrayed as one of the most confident of the zodiac signs, Leos contend with bouts of insecure days.
These spells of insecurity possibly stem from feeling underappreciated by loved ones or feeling unworthy of adoration. (Therefore, ignoring a Leo is surely the quickest method to devastate them.) The fact that Leos undergo moments of self-doubt is perfectly explained because of their need for attention and to maintain strict control of their own life. To illustrate, most days I walk with my head high while flashing a bright smile. On the other hand, sometimes I’ll arrive home after a long school day sulking with teary eyes. The emotional fear of not being worthy of my friends’ and parents’ love is a heavy burden upon my shoulders. Occasionally, the confident facade wears away, and the crushed lion crawls back to its
den.
If anybody with a keen to astrology observed my mannerisms, they would most likely predict that I’m a standout Leo paradigm. My elegant hair, neediness for attention, confidence, straightforwardness, and periodic insecurity all serve as telltale clues. Again, how astonishing that I exemplify numerous characteristics of my zodiac sign! While some may believe that the stars and celestial bodies hold no weight in human affairs, I’ll just continue to flaunt myself as a Leo, proving the disbelievers wrong.
