Stereotypes In 'Desiree's Baby'

When I was about fourteen I was stereotyped for many things, one was my style, another was my size. I have been stereotyped all through out my life and for little things that either don't make sense or just because people would assume and be rude about it. Have you been stereotyped?What most people don't know is that when you stereotype some one you affect that person. No one knows what anyone else is going through and if you put that label on them and hurt that person because it can impact there life in a very negative way. Get to know someone before you judge them, you may not realize it but you can hurt someone without meaning to. Stereotypes can be defined as judgments that people make against others before they truly understand them, and they impact our society in many ways. For example, in the poem,” Labels” the author showed us that you shouldn’t label people.The poet writes that” Grouping folks together is an individual wast” (Holbrook) What the author means is that putting people in groups, is just a waste of time because people are not just one thing. You can be so many things and not have a group at all.In addition, in the story, “Desiree's Baby” the author is trying to tell us that you shouldn't assume or judge someone before finding out the truth . “But above all she wrote night and day I thank the good god for having so argued our lives that our dear Armand will never know that his mother ,who adores him, belonged to the race that is cursed with the brand of slavery” (Chopin). This shows that people judge to quickly and need to really know the truth before you act out agents the person or people.over all, judging to quickly and putting people in groups is just not okay.
