Participants were awarded partial credit and five dollars. All participants shot all their shots on a regulation basketball hoop in a hardwood gym with a regulation basketball. Participants watched one of three videos which were stated earlier. The first video is a positive stereotype video contained six clips of white NBA players making free throws. The second video which was the negative stereotype video also showed six clips but of black NBA players making free throws. Both videos quoted players to make 85% of their shots. The third video which was used as the control showed six clips of MLS players scoring penalty kicks.
Participants were told that the main purpose of the research was to examine how watching certain sports videos effect performance in this case free throw shooting. After completing a consent form the participants were allowed a practice session. After shooting free throws after being observed the participants were given a questionnaire.
