Stereotypes In The Movie 'Office Space'

Every single character in the “Office Space” movie depicts various stereotypes you can find in the workplace. These characters are both simplified and exaggerated as we can see in the opening scene with Peter Gibbons, a businessman, stuck in the morning traffic going to work. He looks unhappy and depressed. He is frustrated as he is barely driving and as this old guy walking on the side walk is even going faster than him. He tries to escape from the traffic as he sees the other lane moving faster. He switches lanes but as soon as he switches the traffic stops and the cars start moving to the other lane. Initech does not operate in an ethical manner when it comes to communicate with the workers. They never know what is going on in the company, why the events are happening, and how the decisions are made. There is an obvious lack of communication. Also, Initech makes the decisions without the knowledge of their employees. For example, when the Bobs consultants find out that Milton has been laid off 5 years ago but no one has ever told him, and he still thinks he is employed because he still gets paid due to a malfunction in the payroll. The consultants fix this issue so Milton doesn’t get paid anymore, but he still doesn’t know that he has been laid off long time ago. In fact, nobody told him, and instead of telling him, Lumbergh will let him put de two and two together, and will make him move to the storage room. One of the bobs even states “We always like to avoid confrontation whenever possible.” The way Initech fires his employees is definitely unethical. Moreover, there is an evident lack of disclosure as we can see with some employees being paranoid about the fear of being fired, especially Tom.
