Using steroids is not fair to other players who put in work. It can cause men to develop breasts and become infertile. Women can get excessive body hair and depth of voice. Since steroids are often taken by injections, there is also the risk of getting HIV or hepatitis infection from an unsterile needle or syringe.

Lastly, steroid use doesn’t set a good example. If younger players see their sport role models doped up to win they may think it is okay for them too. This could lead to addiction problems all because of a bad example. "Young athletes often believe that steroid use by their role models gives them permission to use. That it is simply part of what one must do to become an elite athlete."
