NASCAR’S roots can be traced back to the prohibition when moonshine runners would race their modified cars they used for transporting moonshine and to evade capture by the police. This trend continued across the country most famously on the white sands of Daytona Beach. Then around 1941 at the Streamline Hotel in Daytona Beach Florida the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) was born, it was the first sport of its kind offering sanctioned races for spectators to watch and enjoy. NASCAR came to a prime starting in the 1960’s and stretching into today with names like Bobby Allison, Richard Petty, Cale Yarbrough and Dale Earnhardt Sr just to name a few. Tens of thousands of fans and millions watching on tv were amazed by the
high speed action NASCAR offered as well as the story lines of the grass roots blue collar drivers that were making more money than most. The fan base was always predominantly blue collar and through the years with the increased attention of the sport attracted more upscale sponsors which in turn caused a slight shift in the fan base.
