Stonewood Trees: A Short Story

In a town called Stonewood trees grow horizontally. Everyone loved the trees the way they were. They even had police officers watch them at night. They watched them for years and years. Until one summer night when the officer did not show up and Stonewood would be changed forever. John was new to the town and he did not have many friends but the ones he did have were in the green group. Everyone told John to stay away from those boys because they were nothing but trouble. The green group were boys that would go in the trees and scare the officers away. They would cut the limbs off, steal the fruit, and try to push the trees down. John was going to join the group and he had to do what the group leader said to get in.
“You must get in the tree scare away the officer and steal ten apples,” said Tommy the leader.
I have never taken anything in my life. Are you sure this is a good idea,” said John.
“Yes just do it you will be fine and we are here if you need help. I almost forgot after you steal the apples you must try to push the tree down,” said Tommy.
John got in the tree and went to scare the officer and saw that he was not there. He thought this was his lucky night. He took ten apples and came down to show the guys. The green group left him there. He thought this was a test so he continued messing with the tree. He tried to push the tree down. No one has ever been able to push a tree down.
John laid on the tree for a hour because he was exhausted from his hard work. He was very sad that he would not be able to join the group. After two hours passed someone started talking to John. It was the tree speaking.
“Why are to so sad boy?” the tree asked.
