This Act created a new offence of corporate manslaughter to apply to companies, government departments, police forces etc. However, before this Act was introduced, a corporation could only be convicted of manslaughter if a single employee of the company committed all the fundamentals of the offence and was considered ‘senior’ enough to be seen as exemplifying the "mind" or ‘brain’ of the corporation. Due to these limitations, convictions were rare and it was felt that corporations had escaped punishment.…

“Crush humanity out of shape once more, under similar hammers, and it will twist itself into the same tortured forms. Sow the same seed of rapacious license and oppression over again, and it will surely yield the same fruit according to its kind” (3.15.1). In the first paragraph of the final chapter of the riveting A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens reinstates the idea that humanity’s ongoing suffering is not exclusive to the French Revolution, but is a theme that is prevalent wherever violence and injustice thrives. The revolution starts because of the misery and pain that the French aristocrats bestow upon the Third Estate, the peasants. However, the reign of newly formed, newly empowered French Republic, comprised of the oppressed Third Estate, turns into another tyrannical regime as they thirst for vengeance for themselves and their families. Analyzing Charles Dicken’s characterization and plot development of the Marquis St. Evrémonde and Madame Defarge in A Tale of Two Cities, readers can further understand the notable social commentary of how excessive power is capable of leading to violence and suffering.…

Legal liability for a breach of confidentiality covers a broader spectrum than ethical guidelines, which lend to doing what is morally right. Confidentiality in nursing comes with an ethical need for creating rapport with patients. Trust established facilitates increased communication and comfort for discussing personal information. There are some exceptions in terms of patient confidentiality; they are ethically and legally justified as a result of social considerations that are overriding. For example, exceptions are made upon reasonable doubt that patients are a danger to themselves or to another. Similarly, professionals are obligated to report suspected child abuse to authorities (Maradiegue, 2003). There are some laws in the United States where it is required to report particular infectious diseases, in efforts to protect community health. (Nathanson, 2000).…
