She was sold to a taxi renter and was used; not fed or hydrated, she was turned to skin and bones. In the end of her life, Black beauty (Jack) had been walking, she called to him. He didn’t recognize her at first, but then he walked over and they touch noses, Beauty tells his story, and she shares hers. Ginger was on her final limb and Beauty made her so happy, she called him “her one and only friend.” (136) Later she died and her body was carried away in a cart. Beauty was glad she died so that she wasn't suffering any longer.
Ginger was a fighter, till she realized that the people would only get stronger, so she stopped biting and kicking and gave up. In the book, from a horse's perspective, there are great, kind and compassionate owners. But sadly there’s the handful, that doesn't give a rats butt about any creature, or person, all they want is money. In the end that's the kind of owner Ginger got, she died from pulling his heavy, unfair cart, with a mean, unfair owner. Black Beauty is set in 19th-century England. 19th-century is the time when horses were used for transportation. Black beauty and Ginger, are sadly born in this time.
