Strengthquests Reflection Paper
After taking the long and perilous journey through the StrengthQuests test, the five strengths it gave me at the end were different from what I was expecting, at least for the most part. I received the following five strengths: Learning, Intellection, Restorative, Harmony, and Relator. While in each of them there is something I do agree fits with me, not everything does. This book review is on Strengths Finder 2.0. Written by Tom Rath, this book follows and elaborates on Donald Clifton's Strength Finder assessment created in 1998. Strength Finder 2.0 looks to dispel the outdated belief that only weaknesses need to be improved upon. The textbook Psychology Applied to Work describes this concept as positive psychology, "The aim of positive psychology is to shift the emphasis away from what is wrong with people to what is right with people" (Muchinsky & Culberson, pg. 384, 2016). Even though the text can be applied practically, the book really focuses…

During the 19th century, Britain was the most powerful and influential nation in the world; its Empire was spread throughout Europe, Asia and Africa. Explorers were constantly going to these newly conquered lands to spread English culture in an attempt to “civilize” the natives that were living there. Joseph Conrad was an explorer who traveled around the world to the various regions under Britain’s control. Even though he may have taken pride in the extent of the British Empire’s territory, it does not mean that he agreed with their method of “civilizing” the natives after experiencing it first hand on his trip to the Congo. One might ask, how does Conrad’s ‘Heart of Darkness’ feed the concept of postcolonial criticism? Throughout the entirety of the work, we are shown British Imperialism through…

After completing the StregthsQuest survey, I learned that my five greatest strengths are Harmony, Competition, Achiever, Includer, and Communication. Some of these strengths I had previously recognized as a strength, but a few were a surprise to me. Growing up, I was always a competitive person. Strength based assessment is a tool that focuses on people 's strengths rather than their problems, with an aim to move away from categorising the person as the problem and to focus on their strengths and resilience by empowering the client to be the problem solver. It is important for the worker to assist in recognising, organising and enhancing existing strengths and resources. The worker needs to be optimistic about what people can achieve by focussing on the capacities of individuals to be resourceful in different situations. Dennis Saleebey states (Saleebey, 2002) I firmly believe that once committed you will be surprised even amazed, at the array of talents, skills, knowledge, and resources that you discover…
