The Truman Show and Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” both provide a great example of what humans perceive as truth and reality. They portray the fact that humans assume that wherever they find themselves presently is the real world regardless of their lives only being as it presents to them. The Truman Show introduces the film’s protagonist, Truman Burbank, as a man trapped in a alternate reality he perceives as his actual reality. The Allegory of the Cave is a symbol for the contrasts between ideas and what humans perceive as reality.…

Bullying needs to be stopped! The United States needs better laws to prevent bullying. How much more can teens take? I think laws need to be passed as soon as possible because bellying can cause you to get sick and I don’t mean you don’t have confidence in yourself anymore. WAY too many teens die from suicide each year because of bullying. The commercials on TV don’t scare bullies enough to get them to stop. We need better laws with better punishments!…

The concept of stress has been researched for many years. Stress research has can be traced to two theorists which have different approaches to the field of stress research. Hans Selye based his theory of systemic stress on physiology and psychobiology. Richard S. Lazarus bases his theory of psychological stress on cognitive psychology. Lazarus defines psychological stress as a relationship with the environment that the person appraises as significant for his or her well being and in which the demands tax or exceed available coping resources (Lazarus and Folkman, 1984). Selye defines this stress as a state manifested by a syndrome which consists of all the nonspecifically induced changes in a biologic system (Selye, 1976).…
The zone of optimal functioning (ZOF) hypothesis of Y. L. Hanin suggests that each athlete has a specific bandwidth, or zone, of anxiety in which best performances will most likely be observed. The present study investigated the ZOF hypothesis within a multidimensional framework. Unique cognitive anxiety and somatic anxiety zones were identified, and it was hypothesized that athletes whose anxiety levels fell within these zones would be more successful than athletes whose anxiety levels were outside these zones. Results of separate cognitive and somatic anxiety ANOVAs on data from 16 female college soccer players indicated that poorest performances were observed when athletes '…
Stress has been incorporated into our lifestyle. The founder of the word “stress”, Hans Seyle, coined the word 50 years ago (Rosch,). While he was in medical school he observed that patients that had different types of diseases often showed the same symptoms, he stated “they just looked sick”(Rosch). While he observed these patients, it was the start of “stress” (Rosch). In later years he discovered what is called the Adaption System, which is the way the body responds the toe demand that it is given (Rosch). It is a syndrome caused by the autonomic responses that eventually leads to high blood pressure, ulcers, kidney disorders and other illnesses (Rosch).…
