There are many evaluation points that can be made for this study. This was a natural experiment when the naturally occurring exams were taken advantage of, rather than replicating a stressful event. This means that situations and their effect on the body can be studied where it would be unethical to cause stress artificially. Natural experiments also have a high ecological validity. Taking exams is an event that every student experiences and so that the stress felt would be naturally occurring in real…
Anxiety is one of the main reasons I disagree with Steve Dutch. Before staring a test or even during the test there are feelings of worry. Anxiety can be different in every person. Anxiety can be caused by fear of failing, the lack of preparation, and poor test history. Anxiety and depression association of America (ADAA) explains three types of symptoms physical, emotional and behavioral/cognitive symptoms. Physical symptoms are more like headaches, nauseas, excessive sweating, and rapid heartbeat. Emotional symptoms are feeling angry, disappointed and, fearful. Lastly the…
Stress is a common element found in everyone’s life (adults, teens, etc.). Everyone gets so overwhelmed while under stress, that they forget how to handle it. When I’m under stress I decide to do breathing exercises, play so basketball, or listen to music. These stress relievers can all help you get your mind off of your problems and get you focused on what you’re doing.…
a. Students experience test anxiety and stress due to the pressure placed on them to perform well on high-stakes tests not only to show their knowledge, but also to represent the efficacy of their teachers and…
We all at one point have studies hard for a test and then seemed to “forget” what we studied and our anxiety level spikes. “Whether we are prepared or not we all face the recollection of having the fear to fail, lack of preparation, and a history of failed past tests” (ADAA, 2015). When test anxiety strikes we seem to hit all of the physical, emotional, and behavioral stages of how tests affect us. Heart racing, light headed, crying, upset, angry, and overthinking are just a few of what we feel during a test. Second guessing yourself is a difficult situation when you walked in the test over prepared and then end up making the wrong decision of the easiest question on the paper. We all want and try to manage our anxiety by being prepared and taking good note to self test yourself in advance for a test. To decrease your anxiety you have to stay focused and get good sleep and eat right. Have personal relaxation techniques to stay focused of what is on the test and stay positive about the information you are taking in and be…
This can lead to negative health consequences as well as feelings of negativity directed at school. Students, especially feel the stress when there is something meaningful tied to them which can lead to poor test scores. Approaching tests can lead students to become easily agitated on everything they learned. Even if the students studied for more than an hour, the stress can cause the students to break down under pressure and not do as well as they had the potential to do. Many teachers quit the profession every day because of how much stress is put on them to prepare students to perform on standardized…
When used as an educational tool, our central nervous system learns to redefine our reactions to stress. The extent of our neurological overreactions and underreactions are reduced, which helps us to be more discerning and to return to a state where we are able to function at our…
The diathesis-stress model –individuals inherit tendencies to express certain traits or behaviors, which may then activate under conditions of stress. Both twins can have the inherent tendency, but one identical twin might suffer from clinical depression because of greater life stressor. When the other twin has low life…
I know this because SMS teacher Mrs. Garrow says “I have seen my students begin to cry because of the stress from SBAC.” This should tell you that some kids can’t take the pressure and it can make them less confident. Some students believe that standardized tests are a big part of their grade causing stress to build the day of the test. SMS student Emily Z. agrees with this recent statement, she says “Everyday before a big test I’m always stressed out and worry I won’t do my best ‘cause it could be a really big grade.” This shows that standardized tests could be the cause of so much stress on kids. Throughout these pieces of evidence it shows that too much stress can damage their…
Test anxiety is a multidimensional construct that has been defined as the set of phenomenological, physiological, and behavioral responses that accompany concern about possible negative consequences or failure on an exam or similar evaluation. The research study question is, “Do males and females significantly differ on their level of test anxiety?” The topic is a significant problem to students as well as counselors as they endeavor to alleviate the causes of anxiety attacks (gender has been identified as a cause of high test anxiety) during an evaluative situation whose effects are dire to the reduction of GPA on every level of education and academic achievement. According to Fiore (2003), students suffer lower academic achievements due to high test anxiety (worry and emotionality components are intense) bearing in mind that certain types of subjects or disciplines pose greater anxiety levels than others. The main goal for this study is to compare test anxiety responses between males and females among the 41 participants of CSUN. Age range for females is 21 to 50 and males have 22 to 27. It is clear that female students have a higher (SD= 6.9) than male students with (SD=1.5). The skewed age distribution seems to destabilize the results and serves as a valid explanation for either the lower or higher anxiety levels on sex differences.…

Modern life is full of hassles, deadlines, frustrations, and demands. In psychology, stress is a feeling of strain and pressure. Symptoms may include a sense of overwhelmed, feelings of anxiety, overall irritability, insecurity, nervousness, social withdrawal, loss of appetite, depression, panic attacks, exhaustion, high or low blood pressure, skin eruptions or rashes, insomnia, lack of sexual desire (sexual dysfunction), migraine, gastrointestinal difficulties (constipation or diarrhea), and for women, menstrual symptoms. It may also cause more serious conditions such as heart problems. Also, experimental research which has been performed on animals, also displayed results relating to stress and negative effects on the body. It has been shown that stress contributes to the initiation and development of specific tumors within the body. Everyone can experience and suffer stress because of the modernity life of our world, but we will only focus on college students, because we know that studying is not that easy for everyone, and for them, stress is a thing that they need to get used to, because as a student, you’ll encounter things that will challenge your personality. Stress is not always bad. In small amount it is good because its pushes you to do well and do your best and it has athletic performance. Fortunately, basic school education is made available for everyone in the Western world. In some countries around Europe, education even became compulsory decades ago. Therefore, it is inevitable to be confronted with school on a daily basis for most of children and adolescents. Despite experiencing the positive effects of learning and collecting experiences, one has to deal with the evaluation and testing of this attained knowledge. Some students are afraid of the evaluation or the demands that come along with test situations. Test anxiety, also known as exam anxiety is defined as the individual experience of anxious feelings related to test situations (Sawka-Miller, 2011). It is considered to be a subcategory of performance anxiety, but it…
