Attention-getting opening: President George W. Bush had good intentions for every child in America to receive an equal opportunity of a high quality education when he passed the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) in 2001. What got overlooked however was the negative effects that the high-stakes testing associated with the new law, would soon have on the very students that it intended to help. 2. Thesis: Research shows that high-stakes testing negatively impacts students by causing increased test anxiety and stress, and by limiting their exposure to different curricula. 3.
