2) Indicate the research questions of the article.
- What is strain level of caregivers for stroke patients in the early phase after stroke?
- What patient and caregiver factors are accountable for caregiver strain levels?
3) Which sampling methodology has been used in order to recruit participants.
Stroke patients were determined through the existing practices in the health care system with home-care and hospital-care patients, and they indicated their main caregivers. So, a random stratified sample was …show more content…
Data compiled from caregivers during first, third and sixth months of stroke. A multiple regression analysis was carried out in order to examine the factors that were related to strain experienced by caregivers.
5) What are the hypotheses?
Some studies had showed caregivers of stroke patients experiencing high psychological strain, and some hypotheses had stated patient factors might have effect on well-being of caregiver or conversely well-being of caregiver might be affecting patient’s recovery (Greveson et al* stated 30 % of caregivers having high strain three years after stroke, and Wilkinson et al* showed 21 % of caregivers still experienced considerable strain at the 5th year of stroke.)
However there was no converging evidence showing a relationship between patient characteristics and caregiver strain, and also no study covering the patterns of caregiver strain in relation to patient factors in the first months of stroke. With this study the researchers had hypothesized that patient factors could have effect on the well-being of caregiver in the early months, and this effect could explain the findings of earlier
