Project TA: Kai Wang (kaiwang.sunysb@gmail.com) Project #1: Switching Element Problem To be submitted: Wednesday, March 5, 2013 Project Description In this project you will write a program to produce a discrete event simulation of a switching element with 10 inputs and 3 outputs as shown in Fig. 1. Time is slotted on all inputs and outputs. Each input packet follows a Bernoulli process. In a given slot the independent probability that a packet arrives in a slot is p and the probability that a slot is empty is (1– p). One packet fills one slot. For a switching element if three or less packets arrives to some inputs, they are forwarded to the switching element outputs without a loss. If more than three packets arrive to the inputs of the switching element, only three packets are randomly chosen to be forwarded to the switching element outputs and the remaining ones are discarded. p p p p p p p p p p In your discrete event simulation the program will mimic the operation of the switch and collect statistics. That is, in each time slot the program randomly generates packets for all…
In his novel In the Lake of the Woods Tim O’Brien paints a vivid image of the horrors of the Vietnam War, particular the savagery of the Thuan Yen massacre. While prior to reading the novel readers instinctively blame the soldiers themselves for their immoral actions, as the novel progresses, O’Brien shows that while the soldiers may have physically committed the brutal acts of murder, blame cannot solely be placed on them. O’Brien depicts the Vietnam landscape as one that, due its elusive and chaotic nature, was partially responsible for the horrors that the men committed. Furthermore, the very nature of man and our innate capacity for evil suggests that while the soldiers themselves committed the physical acts of terror, our capability to commit such atrocities when placed within the scenario of war means that any individual would have been taken over by the insanity of the conflict. Ultimately, O’Brien demonstrates that while the horrors of My Lai are unforgivable, there are extenuating circumstances which suggest that blame cannot solely be placed on the soldiers who themselves were at times victims to the nature of war.…

The definition of the doctrine of precedent is lower courts are bound by the decisions of higher courts within the same judicial hierarchy if the facts are similar. For example, in south Australian there are three tiered or layered court system. The lower layer is Magistrate court; the Middle layer is District court and the upper layer is the Supreme Court. The highest court is the high court of Australia. So if a decision made by the Supreme Court, the Magistrate court has to follow. Moreover, the Doctrine of precedent consists of binding precedent and persuasive precedent. Binding precedent mean is that lower courts must follow higher court’s decisions when the fact is similar. Persuasive precedent means is that if decision is made by a different judicial hierarchy, lower courts do not have to follow the decision, but encourage following it.…
Pliny demonstrates Arria’s courage very firmly in this passage through his tremendous choice of words, use of superlatives, tricolons, sentence structure, punctuation and religious symbolism. He illustrates in great depth how Arria had the ability to conceal her grief by putting on a brave face seemingly at the flick of a switch and hide the death of her son from her husband.…

In this paper I will try to explain the SCM at a franchised hospitality property. I list the inventory that we use to complete our services to the guest as well as displaying a graph that will depict the manual way we do our ordering, storing, and delivery of the products we use. Nest will be the returns that are made by a guest which fall into the refundable category…
In the novel, The Kite Runner, one symbol used is the kite which Hassan runs through the streets of Kabul to recover so that he and Amir win the kite running competition, this kite could represent freedom as when a kite is being flown, it is able to move freely with the wind with no obstacles, which relates to the book because Amir moves to America to relieve all the problems he had in Afghanistan and forget all of the bad things he did by creating a new beginning. The kite could also represent a juxtaposition of roles between Amir and Hassan, as by the end of the book, Amir has become The Kite Runner, not Hassan. Another symbol in the Kite Runner is the cleft lip that Hassan was born with; it is the main feature that Amir uses to describe him with. The cleft lip symbolises poverty because it shows that his parent, his father, didn’t have enough money to repair Hassan’s deformity, and the fact that the cleft lip symbolises poverty, juxtaposes Amir as Hassan is the servant to Amir. When Baba pays for Hassan’s cleft lip to be fixed, it reveals a secret love for Hassan, which foreshadows the event where the reader finds out that Hassan is Baba’s son, but only he and Hassan’s mother know this, which is the reason as to why Hassan’s mother ran away from home.…
With the upturn of the 21st century, trends in technology, globalization and emerging competition in every sector/industry irrespective of geographical boundaries, which has not only made the average consumer more tech savvy, aware and knowledgeable but at the same time, inadvertently, set the bar higher by raising the expectation levels of product/service standards. This is the right time for the governments to capitalize on the growing momentum and harness the long term benefits that it carries by providing business friendly policies and the right framework to support this explosive growth that is to provide economic prosperity to all its citizens. It has also been evident, lately, through common observation, that the conventional and aging principles of economic development would just not fit the bill.…
A Galaxy is a gravitational bound system composed by stars, stellar remnants, an interstellar medium of gas and dust, and a component called dark matter. Galaxies are categorized according to their shape, some of them are elliptical galaxy which has an ellipse-shaped light profile, spiral galaxies are disked shaped with curvy arms, smaller galaxies are referred as irregular galaxies. Galaxies don’t float through space, they are together in groups known as clusters, some clusters are large containing thousands of galaxies, and some are smaller, our galaxy the milky way it’s in a cluster known as the local group containing only fifty galaxies. Some time galaxies collide together mixing their stars and dust together this is an important step in the evolution and growth of galaxies.…
In every state that retains the death penalty, jurors have the option of sentencing convicted capital murderers to life in prison without the possibility of parole. However, according to the Death Penalty Information Center, there have been 1369 executions since 1976 (Death Penalty Information Center, 2014), with a total of 39 executions in year 2013 (NAACP LDF). The death penalty is a cycle of violence magnified with economic inequalities, violations to human rights, and uses cruel uncivilized instruments of death. US lawmakers need to end this horrific cycle of violence and unjust punishment. This immorality of state-sanctioned killing is wrong in many ways and should be abolished.…

Floods are the most frequent type of disaster worldwide. They can strike anywhere at anytime. Although floods can be predicted, they often cause massive damage and destruction of property. The typical effects of a flood are broken down into three sections. The Primary Effects are physical damage and casualties. The Secondary Effects include damaged water supplies, diseases, crops and food disruption, and The Tertiary Effect better known as the long-term effects are economic effects.…
