The last time I witnessed a student acting unprofessional was within the last couple of months. A student was outside, on break, complaining about her grade to her classmates. She was loud and used several curse words to make her point.
Her behavior made me sad, at first. I couldn’t imagine how someone who spoke the way she did, could one day be a part of the health care system.
If I were that student, I wouldn’t have been talking to my classmates about my grade. I would have spoken to the instructor. If the instructor could not help me, then I would take to a program director and then maybe

I believe my most important indicators of professionalism I posses are arriving early to work to prepare materials and ensuring that everything is in place for student’s arrival. I collaborate with my peer in planning of most skills using a daily routine. We discuss students’ goals and achievements and I make recommendations for future interventions. In my opinion, my ability to reach each learner brings about desired outcomes of student engagement. I have a high sense of efficacy and a passion for teaching. Therefore, I am constantly searching for best practices to implement in my classroom. I am willing to take more risks, set higher standards for myself and my students and provide the potential for higher academic gains among my students. Student learning is my responsibility and I…

If you google "Student Professionalism" on the internet, many links for school codes will come up and almost each and every one will be different. How is it that there are so many different interpretations of something that sounds so simple to understand and perform? There are many different types of schools out there so a set of student conduct codes, or how to act professional, that are set deemable to one learning facility might not be acceptable in another. In a highschool setting coming to school with visable tattoos and smelling like tabaco might be acceptable, but at Indiana University School of Nursing it states in their requirments for all students that all tattoos must be covered and must not have the smell of cigarrettes on their person. With that shows that student profesionalism may varry upon setting. The deffinition of student professionalism varries to where it is applied in order to be successful in the varius settings.…

It was in my third semester of nursing school where I hit a major roadblock. I was taking a required class called Complex Health Alterations (CHA), this class in particular spanned two full semesters and was taken in two parts; my roadblock came at the end of the second semester. This class was challenging for me and I had to put a great deal of time and effort into preparing for exams, I found myself either doing moderately well or sometimes not too well. At the end of the semester when final grades came out I was .02 percent below the passing grade to move on to the final semester of the program. I was devastated, but pragmatic enough in knowing that I didn’t pass, remembering what my dad had always told me, “move on, it is over and in the past, you need to look forward, what is done is done”. I genuinely planned on moving forward but had heard from fellow students that the one of the other students that had technically “failed” the course was being allowed to move on because she had only received .01 percent below the passing grade; this had stopped me dead in my tracks. I contemplated how I was going to handle this, should I step up and say something? Should I keep my mouth shut and retake the…
