To maintain a commitment to professionalism, I plan on taking advantage of the many opportunities to further improve my skills in early childhood, in order to better understand the needs of families and the children in my care. To maintain my professionalism goal, one important key is confidentiality. Working with families in a program with many children, we have heard, seen and have to be made aware of many different situations. We always need to respect the parents no matter what the circumstance is. One major thing is we have to earn their trust. If we see that they are in need of help my hope is that they will accept that we can help them and they will feel comfortable in asking us. There are so many resources out in the world to help many different family situations. I decided to become an early childhood professional because kids are simply my passion. Even though working with children may not always be easy, its still worth it. Some days can be frustrating, and we may need to go take a breather, but there’s always something in my head telling me to not give up. When I’m around kids, I feel like I forget everything that's around me, I forget what’s going on. If I arrive in a bad mood, when I sit down with a child, my mood changes. I have babysat for the past few years and my passion for kids have grown larger and larger throughout the years. I feel like since when I started this program a year ago, I've come a long way, and I’m not afraid to be silly with the kids anymore. I believe the most important indicators of professionalism that I possess are that I always respect parents wishes to keep information confidential; I would never go around telling information to people that wasn’t necessary. I’m also open to any and all suggestions from parents to help accommodate each family's needs and wants for our classroom. I ensure that the care I provide to the children is consistent, regardless of what is going on at home, or in my life. This way the children know what to expect from me caring for them and remain comfortable with me. I enjoy working with many different personality types, and i’m very comfortable taking direction from supervisors. I give my complete and undivided attention to the children and put my personal life aside.
