Student loans are a pretty serious systemic problem, but honestly I believe that lack of preparedness is more of a major concern, since it can lead to results that range from unnecessary failing and terrible stress, to increased loans from extra semesters, to dropping out entirely. On the surface, lack of preparedness looks like the student's fault, but it goes deeper to be a systemic issue itself. Many students are being short changed by their high school systems, told they are ready for college by inflated grades and dumbed-down standardized tests, and being shipped off with a fraction of the knowledge their predecessors had.
