I want to educate students on the university’s policies regarding prohibited items, noise, and appropriate activities in order to create the environment that breeds academic success. Freshman year, I was cleaning the common room a little after nine on a Friday night, and I received a noise violation for singing too loudly. Though I thought it was unjust at the time, I did remember that respect for others must be a priority when living in close proximity to so many people, and that has carried over throughout my years here. At the end of my residents’ year, my goal is for everyone to have a clear understanding of what is expected from them, reinforced by reprimand if necessary. Like the RAs from freshman year, I would not hesitate to make BU’s policies known, and enforce them when necessary.
Most of all, what I hope to leave with my residents at the end of the year is a sense of purpose. I hope that by helping their transition, whether it be from home to BU, or BU to BU, they feel able to focus on what really matters most to them, and can pursue it wholeheartedly. If I’ve learned anything from my time at BU, it’s that everything is out there ready for the taking if only you have the drive to reach for it. I hope that my legacy as an RA is that my residents feel equipped to pursue their passions, and to reach for any and all goals they set for themselves without
